TVT 2045.3 - Angel Gonzalez Trade

Post by StormZ_23 » Mon Nov 16, 2020 3:20 pm

This is a big day in Vancouver Mounties history. This is a defining moment in GM Taylor Bettencourt's tenure with the Mounties. The very first 1st round pick Bettencourt made was Angel Gonzalez. Nearly 8 years later, Gonzalez has been traded to the San Fernando Bears for a package of prospects. No one knew if this day would come. Gonzalez is a huge fan favorite due to his aggressive style of play on the basepaths and at the plate. He earned the FL Silk award in 2041 as a result. Now, 1 year before he becomes a free agent, the Mounties found it was best to move on and start over. Given that the Mounties have regressed since 2041, it's likely that Gonzalez has been on the trade block for a while. Since he is 1 year away from free agency, his trade value is lower than ever. Gonzalez is only 24 years old, but the Mounties may not have wanted a Rashardo Menne situation where they overpay a young superstar to stay on a mediocre team. So, Gonzalez is gone, but who did the Mounties get in return?

The main piece in this deal is Davenport Hinkle. Drafted #13 overall in the 2043 draft, Hinkle is one of the most promising catching prospects in the BBA. Funny enough, this is his 2nd new team in the past month as he was a main component in the Alex Ramirez trade. Although, it's very unlikely he will be moved anytime soon. Hinkle had a messy rookie season as he played across three different levels of minor league baseball. Still, his potential is sky high and if he pans out, he's an all star.

Then we have the other pieces in this deal. Hani Goodard is the 2nd notable prospect in the deal. Like Hinkle, he didn't have a home in 2044 as he played across three levels of the minor leagues. Goodard is projected to be a mid-rotation starter with high stuff and control. He will be a project, but think of him as Hideaki Shibutani 2.0. Shibutani was traded to the Mounties last season. He also boasted high stuff and control potential, but he had problems with his work ethic. He has slowly improved on that work ethic and is now the #66 ranked prospect according to OSA. Goodard could follow a similar path. Next we have Don Castor. While he doesn't possess the potential of Goodard and Hinkle, he is more developed than the other two. Castor projects to be a back end starter. Finally we have Ricardo Galindo. He's the only non-prospect in this deal, but he holds some value, particularly when it comes to popularity. He's also a guy the Mounties can throw onto the mound and see if they stick. This worked with Angel Romero last season.

And there you have it, the full trade package for Angel Gonzalez. This is a big day in franchise history; certainly one of the biggest in this decade. Does this mean the Mounties are commencing a fire sale? We can't say for certain, but what we can say is thank you. Thank you Angel Gonzalez for the many memories you have brought us for the past 5+ seasons. Have fun in San Fernando, you will be missed.

It's tough to move a really good player when he's coming into his prime but sometimes it's the right move. Interesting trade for sure.
