TVT 2044.8 - Former Top Prospect Released

Post by StormZ_23 » Wed Sep 09, 2020 6:28 pm

We all love prospects. It's even better when you have prospects in the league's top 100 list. But the worst is when your top prospect struggles as they face tougher competition. Eventually, these players are never heard from again. They are forever known as busts. If they were considered the 31st best prospect in the league, that number will stick with them forever. It becomes a scarlet letter. This is the case for Angelo Deluccio. He was released by the organization on March 31st as a result of the roster crunch. Let's take a quick look at this career.

Drafted in the 2nd round of the 2039 draft, Deluccio was considered a potential catcher for the future. When he was drafted, he was immediately named the organization's most promising catching prospect. You want to know why the team gave Aaron Stone such a big contract? The team had no catcher. He was the final piece of the puzzle. Once Stone was set to leave, Deluccio was supposed to be the successor. At least that was the plan. Another reason why the Mounties signed Stone was because two months prior, Deluccio failed a PED test and was suspended for 80 games. At 19 years old, Deluccio had just finished a highly successful 2040 campaign in short season A.

Since that day, it isn't the prospect ranking that Deluccio has worn as a scarlet letter, it's the failed test. His reputation is forever tarnished. It's clear the loss of PEDs altered his development. Deluccio could have made his major league debut within the last couple of seasons, but clearly GM Taylor Bettencourt didn't want to upset his clubhouse. He didn't earn respect from his teammates or the fans. Good riddance Deluccio. Although, you were indirectly responsible for the Aaron Stone signing which led to the Aaron Stone trade, which could work out really well for Vancouver. Let's hope that is the case.

That sucks, but we have all been there when a prospect doesn't develop.
