TVT 2044.3 - Fan Interest Machine Overloads

Post by StormZ_23 » Mon Aug 31, 2020 12:57 am

One of the most interesting facets of sports deals with how teams try to attain interest of the people in their home city. How do teams create new fans? How do teams retain their current fans? It's an art that teams have to master. One way to make this as simplistic as possible is through a metric called fan interest. Many journalists and former league advisors have figured out how teams assess their popularity. So we decided to create a machine that measures fan interest. By that we mean we asked a bunch of mathematicians and scientists to make the machine for us. However, knowing how low the fan interest has been in Vancouver, we didn't spend a huge amount on this machine. As a result of a few recent signings, the machine has broken because fan interest has risen so much. Fan interest currently sits at 67, the highest recorded by this machine since 2034. The team reached the Cartwright Cup in 2041 and the highest recorded fan interest was less than 67. Ridiculous. Why has it risen so much? Let's see what the team has been up to.

The team found their own real world cheat code. After conducting many surveys and studies, the team found that when they re-sign their popular arbitration eligible players to one year deals to avoid arbitration, fan interest increases. It's very likely that teams across the league have used this strategy for many years while the Mounties lagged behind. In 2043, the Mounties decided to employ this strategy. Before the start of the 2044 season, they have continued this strategy by re-signing Fernando Castillo and Alejandro Ortiz. Also, they re-signed Jeffrey Smith to a 6 year deal. And I imagine the team is looking to employ the same strategy with Angel Gonzalez. Also the team signed Hank Brewer to a 1 year deal. The team does not have a long term catcher so it makes sense for them to look for the popularity boost with Brewer.

The Mounties are looking to join the elite teams in the league with their tactics, which should hopefully bring more fans to their games and retain fans for life. This should keep the owner happy and be more willing to put more money towards the budget, because we know that GM Taylor Bettencourt does not have much leeway to work with.

Signing bumps don't often last long, but ride them while you can.
