TVT 2043.15 - Wow! A Trade!

I don't think anyone can believe it. The Mounties, yes our Vancouver Mounties, just made a trade. A real trade. It's been so long, especially when you watch every other team in the league making deals. But yes, the Mounties have made a deal with the Boise Spuds. Let's take a quick look at the players involved.

The Mounties traded Joey O'Brien, Mr. Negative WAR himself. O'Brien was traded to the Mounties in 2042 in that giant trade with Charlotte. O'Brien was decent when he joined the Mounties. However, because he could actually play defense at shortstop, the team decided to re-sign him to a 4 year deal. How did O'Brien repay the Mounties' generosity? By becoming the worst player on the team. -1.4 WAR is not exactly a valuable contribution to the team. It makes you wonder what Boise sees in O'Brien. Probably the great defense.

Who did the Mounties get in return? Well, you shouldn't expect much of a return for O'Brien. The first player is Alexandre Larga. Larga is a 23 year old starting pitcher in AA. He may not be a star prospect, but it's possible he reaches the starting rotation one day. Although, it's more likely he was brought in as pitching depth, possibly as a long reliever. The second player is Hana Jubair. He is currently in Boise's international complex as he is only 17 years old. While he plays as a starting pitcher, it's likely his future is in the bullpen. He is only a teenager and he throws 95 mph. As he continues to mature, it's possible he becomes a solid reliever in a big league bullpen. Although, the likelihood of this happening is low.

The fact the Mounties received anything of value for O'Brien is impressive, especially considering his contract. Will Larga or Jubair be world beaters? Probably not, but at least the potential is there.
