The Mounties are not in a great place right now. They are 8.5 games out of the wild card race, so unless the pitching does a complete 180, the team will be missing the playoffs once again. What the team does not need right now is an injured pitcher. Well, recently starting pitcher Gustavo Hernandez was placed on the 60 day IL with a torn labrum. This is an injury that takes 4 months to recover from, effectively ending his season. Despite having 1.7 WAR, Hernandez was having an average season at best. However, an average season is pretty valuable for the Mounties right now, especially in the starting rotation. So, losing Hernandez is a big blow for the team. And this isn't the only major injury the team is dealing with. Roberto Beltran and Robbie Krok are both out for multiple weeks, a blow to the Mounties middle infield.
Despite these injuries, you always have to look towards the future. With Hernandez out for the rest of the year and being only a few weeks away from roster expansion, expect former top prospect Richie Vanness to make his debut very soon. Vanness missed most of the 2042 season due to elbow surgery, which has greatly reduced his potential impact in the majors. However, he has been performing very well in AAA. While he may not be the ace that fans were hoping for, there is a chance he can still be a capable innings eater. It looks like we will find out soon.
