TVT 2043.5 - IFA Signing

Post by StormZ_23 » Sun Jun 07, 2020 6:48 pm

The bulk of the top tier IFA free agents have recently signed with their new teams. When that notification came up on Mounties fan's phones, you have to wonder what their reaction was. After our last article, Mounties fans were excited at the prospect of signing some big international free agents. When your team is playing well below expectations, the only thing you can do is look towards the future. As many of the Mounties top prospects have graduated over the years, their isn't too much to look forward too. So, us Mounties fans really wanted to see the team splash on some top tier international free agents. Unfortunately, while they were rumored to be in on some great players, ultimately bigger teams got to them first. However, the Mounties did not leave the IFA period empty handed.

The team signed Ahamyati Sophia. A 6'2" shortstop hailing from Nagpur, India, Sophia was considered one of the least greedy players on the market, which is great for Vancouver. The team only had to spend $1,400,000 to sign Sophia, meaning they can overpay for a potential IFA star next year. Sophia's future is very uncertain at the moment. He is only 16 so he may not be done growing. If he continues to grow, chances are he gets move to third base, which is fine since he has a decent arm. He's an average defender on the infield, but at shortstop he would have to increase his range to continue manning that position. As for his bat, he projects to have an average bat with little to no power. He will be able to avoid strikeouts with ease. Sophia is many years away from contributing at the major league level. Can he develop into a serviceable major league player? We will have to wait and see.
