TVT 2042.8 - 1st Round Pick

Post by StormZ_23 » Mon Apr 06, 2020 3:06 pm

The 2042 draft is currently ongoing. All of the GM's in the league are scrambling through their scouting reports to find the best value player at their draft position. The Mounties definitely had to find a diamond in the rough at their draft position. For the first time in a long time, the Mounties are towards the end of the draft order, 25th overall to be exact. So, it may be a while until the Mounties get back into the top 5 like we're used to. Although, with the way our season is currently going, it may be sooner rather than later. But, that's the pessimist in me. Let's be optimistic and analyze who the team snagged with their 25th overall pick.

1st Round Pick: SP Jose Torres
Age: 19
Current: 3/3/3
Potential: 7/5/5

The Mounties are not breaking the bank with this pick, which is probably for the best. However, the team is getting a pitcher with some decent starter potential. This Dominican 19 year old is already standing at 6' 5". He is a giant for his age. We can marvel at his physical traits all day, but let's look at what got him drafted. He throws 4 pitches, 3 of those pitches are off-speed with plus potential. What will dictate Torres' future is if he can gain more movement on his pitches and locate them with precision. Fortunately, Torres is known as a kid with a great work ethic. His teammates respect him because of it. Right now, his potential is a solid back end starter who has above average stuff. However, if he can dominate the minor leagues, there is a chance he can increase his potential too. This pick is similar to the Daniel Avila pick a couple of seasons ago. Avila has raised his potential because of his dominance in the minors. In Torres' case, he has better pitches, so he may have even more potential to unlock. For now, let's just wait to see what he does in rookie league later this season.
