TVT 2042.2 - Top Reliever Signs

The Mounties were a very good team last season. You don't go 97-65 without having some good pieces. The Mounties were among the league's elite in offense. The starting rotation actually stunned us all. Despite most of the rotation being young pitchers, they ranked among the best in the Frick. Unfortunately, the same can't be said about the bullpen. While the bullpen does have a few nice pieces, ultimately you can't use the same three relievers every game. The bullpen needs to be deep. So, the Mounties traded for two relievers last season. Bill Pidduck made a good impression and signed a 3 year extension. Roberto Lizardo made a bad impression and signed elsewhere. Raul Garcia is a great young reliever and the team has a couple solid long relievers, but that isn't enough, especially as Raul De Jesus won't be back until mid-season.

So, the team needs to find relievers. They were reportedly in on Luis Ortega, but the team did not want to give him a 4 year deal, which is understandable given the current salary outlook. So, they have been looking at some other options and they finally found someone. Jose Luna signed a 3 year deal with the Mounties worth $28 million. This is a front loaded deal with the 2nd and 3rd years as team options, so if Luna doesn't work out this season, then he will be gone and the team won't be stuck with his salary.

Ultimately, this is a decent deal for the Mounties as it makes their bullpen stronger. Although, if this is the only signing the team makes, then it might be a little worrying. Look for the team to continue to sign relievers.
