TVT 2042.1 - Rumors and Awards

Post by StormZ_23 » Fri Mar 13, 2020 11:33 pm

League awards were just released. There were a few familiar faces that were recognized. Here are the names. Angel Gonzalez won the FL Sawyer Silk Silver Slugger Trophy, making him the offensive MVP of the Frick League. A well deserved award for him. Two Mounties won FL Charles Puckett Golden Bat Awards. Those players were Gonzalez and Fernando Castillo. It's a shame that Jeffrey Smith didn't receive anything for his breakout season, but there is always next year. Of course, we cannot forget a couple of other awards. Manager Marco Goodwin won the FL Manager of the year award for his outstanding season as Mounties manager. This was only his third season as Mounties manager, but it was certainly his best. In fact, it earned him a 4 year extension from the team. Goodwin wasn't the last member of the organization to win an award. GM Taylor Bettencourt won the FL General Manager of the year award. It has been a long process for this team, but Bettencourt assembled a playoff squad that should hopefully be in contention for years to come.

Now, let's talk about some rumors. Alexandre Doyle is set to become a free agent this off-season. The Vancouver native did not have a good season, which ultimately left him off of the playoff roster. However, Doyle has a cult-like following among certain Mounties fans. As we know, a group of around 250 to 500 people sit in a particular section of the stadium whenever Doyle is set to pitch. The problem is that because Vancouver is not likely to re-sign him, due to Doyle's demands, this could cause a dramatic drop in fan interest, which would stem from this problematic group of fans. They don't care that this team just made the playoffs for the first time in a decade, they just love Doyle. We'll have to wait and see what happens in the next week.

In our last article, we looked at the probability of the team looking to bring in the outfield fences, so they can cater to their offense. Now, there have been rumors that the team may be looking to build a whole new stadium. Recently, some teams have confirmed their proposals for new stadiums, and Vancouver may be next. The Northwoods Outpost was built only 16 years ago in 2025, however the team is looking to gain more fan interest and attendance numbers are among the lower third in the league, despite being a playoff team. It can be difficult to entice fans, but a new stadium may do the trick, especially if the team funds the stadium instead of the city. The question is whether the team has the funds to fully pay for the stadium.

The loss of 250 fans would put the Mounties under water. :)

if you do not have the money to maximize the stadium buy-down plan i would absolutely wait. Ask Brett Golden and recte what happened in Nashville when the previous owner built a new stadium with no money down. The payment plan put a pretty serious crimp on their finances, especially in the early days.

When things are going well, $4-$5m isn't a big deal, but when things are tight, that's a pretty steep bill.

Yeah I'll probably end up not doing it. I just had the thought because I want to bring in my outfield fences and I know my fan interest is low, so I thought maybe just kill two birds with one stone. But, this isn't really the best time to do it financially.

Doyle would be an absolute menace as a RP conversion, just saying.

Even after winning the division, fans would still rather watch Portland baseball than Vancouver. I can't say I blame them either.

I’m thinking about it, it’s more that I don’t want to pay him what he wants, but I might change my mind.
