TVT 2039.2 - New Manager Arrives

Post by StormZ_23 » Fri Jun 14, 2019 6:03 pm

It did not take long for the Mounties to find their new manager. There were a few names to keep an eye on as a few veteran managers were looking for a job. However, the Mounties chose someone virtually unknown, Marco Goodwin. The team signed him to a 4 year contract with a salary of $1,150,000 per year. The 60 year old Australian has had a long career in baseball stemming over 26 years. However, he has been in the BBA for one season, which was with the Mississauga Credits, the rookie league affiliate of the Edmonton Jackrabbits. So, he has had very little BBA experience, but the Mounties must see something in him that could help develop the young core of prospects that will be up within the next few seasons.

What should we expect to see from Goodwin? Well, despite the fact he has not been in the BBA very long, we know of some of his coaching tendencies. We know that he is not someone to mess around with. He brings order to his locker room and likes things to be done in a particular way. Egos will be kept in check on his team, and that is something that can be appreciated. However, this temperamental style may keep some free agents away from Vancouver. One rumor we heard was that the Mounties were interested in signing free agent starting pitcher Carlos Delgado, but Goodwin's managing style has kept him away. How much of a problem will this be in the future? We do not know, but if players do not want play under Goodwin, we can assume that they are not players with a winning mentality. Other than his personality, Goodwin does not show any abnormalities in his coaching style. In his experience in other leagues, he had great influence on his players, particularly with his hitters. So, if he can develop hitters to play well in the pitcher friendly Northwoods Outpost, future success is inevitable. That is a big "if", but it's fun to be optimistic. Good luck to Manager Goodwin and we hope he will have a key role in future Vancouver Mounties success.

One more little piece of news, the Mounties signed a new hitting coach, Gary Ritter. He has been a hitting coach in the majors before, notably for the Phoenix Talons from 2029 to 2033. Most recently, he was the hitting coach for the Beirut Cedars. He has not had great success in the past, but with his coaching focus on power and seeing the plethora of power hitters coming through the minors, including superstar in the making Jeffrey Smith, he could have great success here in Vancouver. Good luck Coach Ritter.

The rebuild continues. Thanks for reading!
