TVT 2038.2 - 1 Month Into the Season

Post by StormZ_23 » Wed Apr 10, 2019 3:09 pm

Well, the Mounties have started the season in contention for the worst record in the league. After the last week of games, the Mounties have a record of 16-35 and sit dead last in the league. Let's look at what has gone on so far in the organization.

The major league club has just been terrible. The only consistently performing on this team is Rashardo Menne III. Well actually that's lie, most of the team has been playing consistently terrible, mainly the starting rotation but we will get to them in a minute. Menne has been consistently good to start the season, which was expected. A slash line of .281/.379/.411 while walking more than striking out is a typical Meene season. Pierre Cordona and rule 5 pick Michinaga Narita have been solid in limited appearances. Tony Charles has played decently. Every other hitter has ranged from being below average to terrible. Scott Harper has been below average and late free agent signing Ippopito Basaglia has been terrible. You can rank every other hitter in between these two. Even more disappointing has been Ki-seop Park, who has regressed heavily to start this season. Coming into the season with a new 4 year extension after a solid campaign last year, it's been really discouraging to see Park playing so badly. It's really been terrible to watch this lineup hit to start the season. But let's move onto the starting rotation. If you want to talk about bad, this is where you start. Everyone in that starting rotation has been awful, especially opening day starter Manuel Soliz. He has one year of arbitration left but do not be surprised if the Mounties are shopping him hard right now. Everyone has regressed from last season and this terrible to see as the Mounties hoped for good seasons from their pitchers to trade for prospects for the rebuild. But now, these pitchers are not coveted and won't be unless they bounce back quickly.

Speaking of the rebuild, let's talk about the minors. José Arellano is finally in the majors and looks to have taken Soliz's spot in the rotation. He made his season debut this past week and pitched great against the Crusaders, allowing 5 hits and only 1 ER in 8 innings pitched. Unfortunately for Arellano, he ended up with a loss because he could not get run support. Despite the loss, Arellano looks to be major league ready and can hopefully be a bright spot for the Mounties for the rest of the season. Fernando Castillo looks to finally be making progress in his development as he has started off the season in A ball with a .276/.309/.449 stat line. He is also learning a new position as he has been slotted in the left field position for the past few weeks now and he is making progress there. Strikeouts are still a problem and he is, at best, a couple seasons away from the majors, but this development is great to see out of him. Many top prospects in the system have also been playing well with Carlos Martinez, Tomás Valadez, Sen Mori, Keith Howard, and José Ramirez all making positive strides in the development. The lower minors haven't even started yet and exciting players such as Ángel González, Yasutoki Sato. and Masaki Sato haven't even started their seasons yet. Pay attention to the minors this season, especially with mess going on in the majors.

We may write an in-depth article on the key selections for the Mounties in the amateur draft, but we may not. So, let's at least talk about their first round pick, #9 overall, RF Jeffrey Smith. Smith is one of the more developed bats in this years drafts and while he may not play a premium position, his bat was too good to pass up. Smith has potential to become a superstar on his bat alone. Also, seeing how he is not a raw prospect, we may seem Smith in the majors sooner rather than later, possibly even before last years first round selection, Ángel González. There is reason to be optimistic for the future.

The rebuild continues. Thanks for reading!

I like Smith quite a bit. Useful pick... and man, did Scott Harper ever hit the skids wrong.
