The Vancouver Times - 2037, Issue 2

Post by StormZ_23 » Wed Dec 12, 2018 5:01 pm

Opening week in the BBA is here everyone! The start of a new season is always one of the best times of the year and for the Vancouver Mounties, it could not have gotten any better. With preseason predictions having the Mounties finish around the 60 win mark, this 4-1 start for the Mounties is a shock to many around the league, but a welcome one for Mounties fans. Let's take a look at their opening week.

Games 1-3 vs. Edmonton
The Mounties may have lost on opening day with Juan Guerrero not performing up to his standards as the opening day starter. However, this series showed that pitching may be the key to the Mounties season. Every starter pitched at least 7 innings, with José Zamora pitching a complete game despite having only 1 strikeout. Zamora was hitting his spots perfectly all game, allowing him to pitch that complete game. Let's not forget about the hitting though. Rashardo Menne III, Scott Harper, and Ki-seop Park all had a great series against Edmonton pitching. This was a fun series to watch between these Canadian rivals and shows the great pieces of talent that the Mounties have.

Games 4-5 vs. Hawaii
Despite the fact that Hawaii is projected to finish around the same record as Vancouver, the Mounties showed up big time in the Aloha State. Pitching was also the key to these games as both starters, Bert Hugill and Belmiro Maanico, pitched complete games, leading to 9-4 wins against Hawaii in both games. Menne and Harper both played out of their minds as well, with both currently on averages of .455 and .500 respectively.

The Mounties players and fans have had a lot of fun during these past 5 games and while this streak will not last forever, it is a welcome surprise to what is sure to be a bad season for the Mounties. So for now, it's best to just sit back and enjoy the ride before it comes to a halt.

Vancouver has definitely had some workhorses in the rotation the last few years. I see that is continuing.

didn't notice that. That's some Abe Colbert level pitch counts for Maanico.
