I was excited to see the league announcement today that Juan Guerrero had been named the Frick League Rookie of the Year. Conrgratulations for the outstanding honor! Guerrero edged out Juan Mendoza for the award. Guerrero got 16 of 30 first place votes whereas Mendoza received 7. Rashardo Menne III finished fourth in the balloting.
Guerrero finished up the year with a 19-8 pitching record and an ERA of 3.19. His WAR for the year was 5.1. Mendoza had a great year with the Bears: .317 with 19 home runs and 102 RBIs. His WAR was 4.8.
Hotha Popo, H-Po, won the Zimmer Diamond Glove for catchers in the Frick. Nice feather in his cap!
Arbitration will take place tomorrow and free agents will file then too.
Meanwhile, the Mounties announced that Francisco Martínez had been hired to be the Mounties bench coach next year. He inked a three-year deal. Martínez was the bench coach at Omaha/Indianapolis for the past seven seasons. He was the bench coach for the Mounties from 2026 through 2028 when the team twice made the playoffs. The Mounties also signed Dave Richardson to a three-year deal to be pitching coach at AAA Victoria.
