THE WEEK

Well, it wasn’t a week. Only three games, but it was three nice games for a change.
  • Juan Guerrero beat a tough Seattle team at Northwoods by the score of 5-2. He won his 18th with a gritty six-inning effort without having his best stuff. He’ll get a shot at 19 against Edmonton on Friday. Scott Harper hit a three run homer, his 34th. Oddly he has hit more at unfriendly homer Northwoods than he has on the road.
  • Dermot Halford wandered into town from Victoria and won his second game of the season with a nice five-hit complete game in which he struck out ten and walked no one. Alfredo Bermúdez was player of the game with three hits including a home run and four batted in.
  • Manuel Solíz improved to 14-12 with an almost complete game 9-3 win over Boise. Troy Downey came on to get the last out. Player-of-the-Game Scott Harper hit his 35th home run and notched four more RBIs. He has 99 RBIs now so needs only one to hit the century mark.
DISSA AND DATA
  • Rashardo Menne III dropped to .299 in his quest to be a .300 hitter.
  • Ki-seop Park, who has had a solid second half, stole three bases against Boise on Tuesday. He now has 61 steals in 72 attempts. He has only recently been given the green light, so it will be interesting to see if the green light remains on for all of next season.
  • The local media has recently started grousing about Vancouver hitter of the year and pitcher of the year. Juan Guerrero seems like a no brainer for POY. HOY looks like a decision between power hitting Scott Harper and third baseman Rashardo Menne III.
  • Interestingly, Guerrero, Harper, and Menne should all be eligible for the BBA Rookie of the Year Award.

Not saying they are favorites . . .
Just candidates.
