Magic Number Down to Nine
Strange Wookey Woes

This past period saw the Mounties win seven of nine including two of three from possible playoff foe Baltimore. That leaves the Mounties magic number at nine to clinch the Johnson League Pacific Division. The team played four home games (sweeping Hawaii) and sold 199,396 tickets for the series at Northwoods Outpost, an average of 49,849 per game, just 151 below capacity.

Shane Wookey is in a funk. On August 7th he seemed to be coasting toward a 20 win season. But since that day he has lost four of five starts and had one no decision. In two of those outing he looked bad; in the others he just had bad luck. No one seems particularly worried. While Wookey suffers his personal losing streak, Robbie Sargent continues his torrid winning streak. He has now won eight games in a row, six of them on the road. Both still have a shot at 20 with four more possible starts, but it’s also possible they will both miss a start as the team rests them in preparation for the playoffs.

Any thoughts about Doug Newhouse not being right since returning from his stay on the DL were dismissed after he batted over .400 for the period with three dingers and five stolen bases. He remains a legitimate contender for Sawyer Silk Silver despite missing six weeks of the season.

Nope.
He didn't get the win.
Renfork got the win in extra innings.
Wookey hasn't won since August 7th.

I wish my guys would get in that kind of funk that Wookey's in. In three of his five starts since 8/7, he's given up three runs or less.

Yeah, that's been the bane of my existence this season. I've added pieces like Rodriguez and Square who are big bats with good defensive skills. But I'm weak defensively at a few positions still. Hey, we've clawed our way back to a near positive zone rating as a team.

I know, just giving you a hard time since I know how much it has been bothering you. I'll try not to give you too much bulletin board material.
