It was a tough week for the Mounties despite spending it in the friendly confines of Northwoods Outpost. The week started well as the locals beat Valencia 4-2 to take that series two games to one. Juan Guerrero got his ninth win.
Then Long Beach showed up for three and swept the boys three straight. The first game was close behind decent pitching by 20-year-old rookie Alejandro Ramírez, newcomer by trade Juan Rodríguez, and closer Rodrigo Lugo. The Mounties got the tying run on second in the last of the ninth when Ki-seop Park doubled with two out, but Gebre-Egziabher Mwaka struck out to end the game. The second game was all Long Beach after they overcame a 3-1 Vancouver lead in the fifth inning, eventually drawing away to win 11-5. In the finale the Mounties managed only three hits while getting shut out 3-0.
Madison rolled into town next. In the opener the Mounties dropped their fourth straight by the heart-breaking score of 2-1. José Zamora was the tough-luck loser. In game two Juan Guerrero was back on the mound. He allowed just five hits and the Mounties prevailed 5-1. Scott Harper hit his 21st home run. The finale of the series is tonight at 7:05 at Northwoods.
The only other news of note is that Juan Guerrero was inexplicably left off the All Star Ballot despite sporting a 10-4 record and an ERA of just over 3.00.
There were many tweets, chuckles, and water cooler conversations around Vancouver this week about the offhand comment heard recently that Bertram Hahn would be occupying a La-Z Boy recliner at the end of the Mounties bench until 2040. Hahn, forever the opportunist when money is to be made, immediately signed a deal with La-Z Boy to endorse their line of recliners. The company announced that a special offer will be in place during July for a special edition La-Z Boy Hahn recliner at 40% off the regular price. The offer is only available at La-Z Boy stores located in metro Vancouver (North Vancouver, Richmond, Coquitiam, and Langley). The chair is pictured above.
