Tough week at Northwoods Outpost
Guerrero Wins Two – Left Off All Star Ballot

The Week in Review

It was a tough week for the Mounties despite spending it in the friendly confines of Northwoods Outpost. The week started well as the locals beat Valencia 4-2 to take that series two games to one. Juan Guerrero got his ninth win.

Then Long Beach showed up for three and swept the boys three straight. The first game was close behind decent pitching by 20-year-old rookie Alejandro Ramírez, newcomer by trade Juan Rodríguez, and closer Rodrigo Lugo. The Mounties got the tying run on second in the last of the ninth when Ki-seop Park doubled with two out, but Gebre-Egziabher Mwaka struck out to end the game. The second game was all Long Beach after they overcame a 3-1 Vancouver lead in the fifth inning, eventually drawing away to win 11-5. In the finale the Mounties managed only three hits while getting shut out 3-0.

Madison rolled into town next. In the opener the Mounties dropped their fourth straight by the heart-breaking score of 2-1. José Zamora was the tough-luck loser. In game two Juan Guerrero was back on the mound. He allowed just five hits and the Mounties prevailed 5-1. Scott Harper hit his 21st home run. The finale of the series is tonight at 7:05 at Northwoods.

The only other news of note is that Juan Guerrero was inexplicably left off the All Star Ballot despite sporting a 10-4 record and an ERA of just over 3.00.

Hahn Happenings

Image

There were many tweets, chuckles, and water cooler conversations around Vancouver this week about the offhand comment heard recently that Bertram Hahn would be occupying a La-Z Boy recliner at the end of the Mounties bench until 2040. Hahn, forever the opportunist when money is to be made, immediately signed a deal with La-Z Boy to endorse their line of recliners. The company announced that a special offer will be in place during July for a special edition La-Z Boy Hahn recliner at 40% off the regular price. The offer is only available at La-Z Boy stores located in metro Vancouver (North Vancouver, Richmond, Coquitiam, and Langley). The chair is pictured above.

Who has a RHB Park? Bet Hahn would earn his cash there.

1. Boise is the most logic landing spot. They have a righty power hitter park and aren't going to be good anytime soon. Though Joe would need to send prospects with in order for that to make sense.

2. Omaha has a power hitter park Hahn would do well in and has a decent amount of bad contracts to send back.

3. Atlantic City could swap one of thier mega millionaire pitchers. It would save them money short term and give them a credable hitter who would do well in thier park.

4. Valencia. This would be a great fit. Young up and coming team with plenty of cap space. Play in a righty band box. It would hurt their OF defense as it would require both Rivera and Mahaffey to play the outfield. I don't see Lee making this move though. Not his style.

5.San Antonio. Balanced park. Rebuilding team. I'm pretty sure Mike would eat the whole salary in a prospect haul if Joe caved in.

6. Brooklyn. I'm crazy enough to make a trade like this and have a slight RHB park. Won't happen this season though. Odds may go up in off season when both my DH platoons are free agents. Maybe something like Castillo/Workman for Hahn as a base? Money would be a wash in 2036/37, Mounties save about $5 mil in 2038 and $14.4 in 2039. Workman, the longer of the two contracts, could be flipped if you took some money back and didn't expect a big return.

7. Long Beach. Hahn would hit there, but Juan Parra is the same player for pennies on the dollar.

8. Calgary. Great RH power hitter park but..Nope. Too many 1B/DH types already.

9. Phoenix. Too many young DH already there.

What kills Hahn is that he is a right handed hitting DH signed to a long contract. That is pretty much the bottum rung of the totum pole according to at least 75% of the GM's in the league. If you have $14 million to spend this off season, you're probably not going to offer it to a RH hitting DH. I don't see Hahn getting traded for at least 2-3 more seasons.

Just out of curiosity, what bad contracts are you looking at for Omaha to send back? Gulliver, Clements, and Rin are the only 2 I see and the last 2 are worth $11 million total next year and that is it. Gulliver runs for $11 million a year but is 3 years less than Hahn...that leaves about $30 million unaccounted for in a swap which would take a few very good prospects to consider taking on $30 million in salary.

1. Boise - I sincerely doubt it unless packaged with prospects. Let me restate: I'll eat Hahn for the duration rather than give up good prospects (if I even had any good prospects).
2. Omaha - It's been discussed and it ain't happening.
3. Have sensed no interest from A. C. that I remember. Swapping Hahn for either Correa or Lopez would cost me significant money this year and next year and be a wash in 2037. I'd rather just wait and keep Hahn.
4.Valencia - I see the fit. No expectation that Lee would be interested.
5. San Antonio - No collusion!! Oops, I mean, no caving! And there is no prospect haul to offer anyway.
6. Brooklyn - Call me when ready. I would do Hahn for Castillo and Werkman (I think - haven't really digested it). Basic wash for this year and next two. I save in 2038 and 2039. Makes sense if Hahn would help you.
7. Long Beach - Parra is a better option for them. Don't see it helping them in any way.
8. Calgary - They took Ward. Can't ask anymore. Don't see a fit anyway.
9. Phoenix - Nope.

I can't see Hahn going anywhere. Brooklyn would be best chance, but no holding of breath here. I've decided I will live with Hahn & take the financial, cap, and roster hits. He may even get to play in some currently unforeseen circumstances. Plus I'm invested in the La-Z Boy Chair and the CEI Voodoo Doll and Pins. There is no truth to rumors that I am talking to Venezuelan hit men - FAKE NEWS!

Was talking about they guys you mentioned. Maybe Munoz too. Not saying you should or would make a trade like that. Just pressing to find possible landing spots for what looks to be an untradable player. The real reason I threw Omaha's name in there is that I feel he could hit 45 HR and have a high OBP for your team. I also said that it would probably be a few years before Hahn would be moveable.

I will definately keep this in my rolodex of 10,000 trade ideas. I just kind of blurted that out(like I do most posts) without thinking it through. It might have some legs though. Would help me short term(2-3 years) and by the time Hahn starts declining, Nightmare and Balderas will be too. So it wouldn't even matter. That contract though...

I do agree, he would probably mash in my park. I have considered options but his contract is just keeping me away.

Maybe this is one of those opportunities to post a partially retained contract and see what the governing board thinks. I believe they said it just hadn't ever come up but that it would be something to consider if they seen it.

maybe Hahn can get a tryout with the local baseketball team with that La-Z-Boy endorsement.

I’m going to assume that recliner isn’t very comfortable and extremely overpriced.
