After dealing with the heartbreak of failing to sign Jose Vargas, I started looking for potential back-up plans to see about replacing Ziya Turkes in right field. Turkes should be a fantastic hitter, but he is way too slow to be playing outfield, and would probably serve better as the teams DH. So my first course of action was figuring out who Charlotte had in the outfield, and honestly, I liked all of them. Jorge Trujilo is only 24 and just came off a 36 HR, 129 RBI season, so figured there was no shot of the Flyers trading him. Jose Bedridden was next, just 22 years old as a switch hitter with solid defense in the outfield. Again figured the Flyers probably didn't want to part with him so he's out too. Newly acquired Craig Ablett? Eh, probably the guy I would've wanted the least as he is 35 and would basically be another Shafiq Zahir so pass.
That just leaves right fielder Miguel Montero. He just finished with a whopping 4.1 WAR with his first all-star appearance and a Zimmer award for right field to boot. Perfect, this is probably who Charlotte was looking to replace because his offensive ratings no where near suggest a 4.1 WAR, but that was fine. He should be an average offense with an elite glove. I reached out to the GM and asked if Montero would be available due to him signing Vargas, which he said he was. I made my offer, and it was accepted.
Vancouver sends:
3B Marco Skinner (AA)
SP Rick Smelser (A)
Charlotte sends:
RF Miguel Montero
With this move, more than likely we'll see Ziya Turkes move to DH with Raul Pena and Javier Valles being sent down to AAA for the time being.

Montero had absurd numbers in right field last year defensively.

I think he'll continue that here. It's his bat that will come back down to earth.
