2061-2 Passing the torch

Post by Knucklehead254 » Tue Oct 15, 2024 1:28 pm

I stay sitting in my office as he walks in. Davenport Hinkle. He requested earlier to meet with me in my office but wouldn't say why.

Did he want out?

It seems like forever ago when it was 2059, despite our terrible season and Hinkle being a hot commodity, he refused to waive his NTC to join a contender. "My heart is here in Vancouver boss." he said to me. It was a blessing but also a curse, as I reallly could've gotten a sweet package for him back then, but alas. Perhaps he's changed his mind, knowing he doesn't have many years of baseball left, us missing the playoffs last season was a heartbreaker but was also a sign of positive things to come. Now that he's in here, I don't know what to expect.

"Morning boss, sorry to spring this up on you so suddenly."

"No problem Hinkle, anything for our franchise player, what can I help you with?"

"It's about Serrano."

Reynaldo Serrano? Oh no, do they not get along, is Hinkle wanting us to ship him out?

"Everything ok with him?"

"Yeah boss, more than ok."

"Oh.. do you guys not get along?"

"We do! Love him like a brother, it's just that I don't think he gets enough recognition. Take our posters and billboards around the city, it's always either with me in the front or just alone. Saying that I'm the face of the franchise and all that. Personally I think it should be Serrano instead."

I was taken aback by this but at the same time not surprised. Hinkle has always gotten along with everybody in the clubhouse. Was never a true leader per se but a lot of people look up to him.

"Well I'm sure that's something I can bring up with our marketing team, but are you sure about this?"

"Absolutely, you and I both know I'm at the end of my rope so it's time to start showcasing our fresh blood. I think Serrano will fill the role perfectly."

"I promise I'll make it happen."

Just a case of this’ll probably be Hinkle’s last season in Vancouver unless he takes a pay cut, don’t think I’d be able to afford him for $10 million in 2062 with the cap.
