TVT 2043.16 - "All 3 Will Stay!"

The Mounties are what you would call, a very average team. With a 63-68 record, they have been hovering in 4th place in the FL Pacific for most of the season. While being 6 games behind in the wild card race means you shouldn't count them out, the probability of them making the playoffs is currently 0.5%. So, it's a bit of a long shot. However, this team is definitely better than last season. The team only won 74 games last season, and it's likely they could reach somewhere between 77-80 wins. What changed? Well definitely not the pitching, however Lando Klomp is having his best season in a Mounties uniform. It has been the hitting. Alejandro Ortiz has been a consistent force since he has reached the majors. David Noboru and Roberto Beltran have had surprisingly good seasons too. However, we have to credit much of this offensive success to the three outfielders. Jeffrey Smith, Fernando Castillo, and Angel Gonzalez have all had spectacular seasons. With recent news that Castillo and Gonzalez signed one year extensions to avoid arbitration this upcoming off-season, Mounties fans were hoping for some more good news.

GM Taylor Bettencourt had this to say in an interview with The Vancouver Times, "I have the upmost confidence that we will be able to re-sign all three of these guys to multi year extensions within the next couple of seasons. I'm sure Mounties fans we will be excited to hear this news. Of course, this off-season we can only offer Jeffrey a max 6 year extension due to the service time restrictions. But rest assured Mounties fans, we will get this done."

This is fantastic news to hear, especially coming from the GM himself. With rumors circulating that Smith was on the trade block for quite some time, it's reassuring to hear that the team intends to re-sign all three players. However, what does this mean for Alejandro Ortiz? Will the team be able to re-sign him? Time will tell what his future holds, but for now let's celebrate knowing that the 3 most popular players in Vancouver will be staying, possibly for the rest of the decade.
