Galaxy Gas 2064.03 - Seeing a Friend in Jacksonville
While finishing up some business from his time spent in Jacksonville the former Hurricanes GM (pre-Zombie days) decided to drive by the stadium that he helped design and eat dinner at the main restaurant called "The Yard".
After he finished eating, Greathouse looked over his bottle of Mich Ultra and saw a guy across the bar with an attractive woman that seemed familiar but he could not quite put his finger on from where. The more he looked at the guy, he did it in small sequences as not to come across as too much of a creeper, it started to become more clear.
"Pancho! Is that really you?" as he realized that it was the one and only Pancho Costa.
The years - 14 of them to be exact have change him a bit but the smile was still the same.
"Hey there Double G!" That is what the Canes players back in the day used to call Greathouse. An inference to his initials and not any bodily dimensions by the way.
"What have you been up to lately?" Greathouse asked.
"Not much. I am getting a little bored actually. I am thinking about pulling up roots and trying a change of scenery." Pancho responded.
Greathouse's wheels then started turning albeit slowly. "Why don't you put that baseball knowledge of yours to work and come help out all of our youngsters in the Valencia fold.
Pancho repiied, "I am not sure I have the skills to help out the guys in the big leagues."
Greathouse quickly answered, "That's no problem. We can start you out teaching the kids stepping into the minors and see where things go from there."
After taking a drink, Pancho said, "Why not. If anything else it may cure the boredom for a while."
Greathouse finished by saying, "I will get the paperwork started and then get back with you within the week!"
Pancho will be slated as a hitting coach. He has a pedigree that should support such a transition. After being acquired from Twin Cities as part of a trade for Chris Kelly going into the final year of his contract, Pancho was second in the Rookie of the Year voting the following year in 2043. A three-time All Star and two Gplden Gloves at first base, Pancho finished his career with 332 home runs and 508 steals while compiling a .299 batting average.
