Galaxy Gas 2063.29 - Rockets Make Playoffs
The Russelville Rockets finished their Rookie Club regular season with a 45-23 record. That record was good enough for the second-most wins in the Spike Nolan League and to claim the Big Country Division crown five games ahead second place Charlottesville.
Anchoring the rotation was 18 year-old southpaw, Atay Osman. Atay went 5-1 on the season with a 3.02 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. He recorded 50 strikeouts in the 59 innings on the mound. While his potential ratings are not that high at the moment (Stuff-6, Movement-4 and Control-5), the Scouting Discovery product delivered in his initial season.
In the bullpen, 2063 fifth-round pick Bob Rose recorded 10 saves with a 3-3 record in 27 appearances. Bob had a 3.25 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP this regular season while striking out 35 batters in 36 innings.
At the plate, centerfielder Quentin Belgrove had a leahue leading batting average of .358 among batters that had enough at-bats to qualify. The Rockets had two other batters hitting over .400 in limited at-bats with Sameer bin Labeeb (.417 in 36 at-bats) and Vern Tinnin (.403 in 67 at-Bats).
There were three hitters that had double digit home runs including shortstop Kjeld Blom, leftfielder Raul Chavarria and rightfielder Gideon Shone each chipping in 15 home runs apiece.
Russelville will host the Charlottesville Marching Ants in the upcoming week.
