A few mere hours after the announcement of Valencia manager, Omar Sosa, that he was retiring, pitching coach Alejandro Ramos and hitting coach John Carpenter each announced that they were retiring as well.
John Carpenter at the age of 67 is leaving on the heels of a season that showed the Stars ranked 28th out of the 32 BBA teams is runs scored and 26th in batting average. Many of the locals were questioning whether Carpenter still had what it took to stay in the game as a coach. Evidently, Carpenter himself wondered the same and decided it was time to leave since Sosa was leaving as well. Carpenter's coaching ratings were not bad but not overly impressive either. He was rated as being Good in Development, Excellent in Mechanics and just average in Teaching Hitting.
Alejandro Ramos who is a year younger than Carpenter put together a middle of the road pitching rotation and bullpen ranked 14th out of the 32 teams. Closers Luis Perez and Eduardo Moreno helped those numbers quite a bit while Luis Gonzalez and Peter Dean helped the starting rotation numbers. Outside of those four pitchers, the rest of the group underperformed compared to their expectations. Ramos' ratings were decent with his Development being Good, his Mechanics being Excellent and his Teaching Pitching being Legendary.
The Valencia front office is busy trying to find replacements for all three positions while also trying to extend contracts of several players that will be going to arbitration.
