Galaxy Gas 2061.58 - Looming Free Agency Decisions - Or Not

Among the six players eligible for free agency this off-season, there is not much hope that any of these players will return in 2062. Four of those six players do not fit into the future plans at all even if they were not entering free agency.

Qadir bin Gamal was on a $4.7M contract last season. The 34 year-old left fielder had his worst season over the last three years hitting .264 with a .327 on-base percentage and 10 homers to go with his slightly above average glove. Qadir is not interested in making a deal and frankly neither is the Valencia front office. Look for Qadir to be out the door before Thanksgiving.

Peter Dean went 13-7 with a 2.94 ERA which was well-worth his $2.2M contract. He is asking for a 3-year/$4.16M which is too long of a contract considering his 38 year-old arm. The front office make consider a one-year deal if Dean would agree to it but no moves have been made to date.

Jeff Doane After having his rating drop from 55 to 45 over his two years in Valencia, Jeff spent half of the season in AAA but did manage a 2.48 ERA to go along with a 2-60 record while garnering $1.8M this past season. Jeff is asking for a 3-year/$1.16M per year deal but at 36 years old this reporter doesn't see it in the stars.

Nobuhito Kan Although Nobuhito is very popular with the locals, it is doubtful that his request of a 4-year/$1.475M will be inked. His record of 02 with a 5.03 ERA will not justify it.

Dana Pualani Dana's ERA went up from 3.75 in 2060 up to 5.64 in 2061. He is requesting a 3-year/$1.3M per year deal but the lefty will most likely be playing elsewhere in 2062.

Tomas Franco The Rule 5 pickup had a solid first half of the season but ended up with an ERA of 6.08. The 36 year-old who pitched in 37 games has stated that he is moving on.

With that being said, four relievers in the bullpen this year will likely be elsewhere in 2062. Look for a lot of new faces in the pen next season.

Especially when your house is losing $$ and been under .500 each of the last three seasons.
