With the All-Star game looming on the horizon, the teams for both the Johnson and Frick leagues have been announced. Once the Frick team was announced , the Valencia faithful found out that three of their own made the 35 player squad.
On the offensive side of the plate, the lone Valencia representative is second baseman, Miller Shed. Miller only received one vote during the balloting process as he is having an off year by his standards. While Miller's batting average is similar to years past (.321 this season compared to .322 and .329 the previous two seasons) and his on-base percentage is .376 (compared to .371 and .381), his home run production is on pace for 6 this year compared to 10 last year. The biggesr difference is Miller's projected RBI total is 55 this season compared to 86 last year, but that is more of a reflection of his teammates not being on base as much.
On the mound Valencia sends starting pitcher Luis Gonzalez and reliever Eduardo Moreno. Luis hit the ground running after his free agent signing that brought him to the Stars. After working the bullpen for two years in Twin Cities, Luis was placed back in the starting rotation resulting in a 10-2 record with a 2.66 ERA. Luis finished sixth in the voting with 13 votes.
Meanwhile Eduardo Moreno was moved in the opposite direction from starting pitcher in AAA to the Valencia bullpen. Eduardo has went this season so far going 6-6 with 8 saves in a stopper role. His ERA to date is 2.97 with a miserly WHIP of 0.87. Eduardo also received 13 votes placing him in a tie for fourth among relievers.
