As Bo looks over the bullpen and the spring training results, he has come up with the following observations:

The first trio will likely fall into the closer, stopper and setup roles in the early part of the season.
Lindsay Barber – Last year’s closer had a pretty good spring pitching 10 innings with a 0.87 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP.
Eduardo Moreno – The newly converted reliever only had 2.1 innings in the pen, but did not allow a runner while striking out 3. After t he conversion, Eddie is the highest rated reliever of the three.
Luis Perez – Luis did not have as good of a spring as the other two but he did manage to strike out 9 batters in 8.2 innings. His 5.40 ERA is a little misleading as he allowed 3 earned runs in the same outing. In his other outings, Luis has given up 2 earned runs in 8 innings of work.

Peter Dean – Peter will be the long reliever of the staff unless he gets moved to the back end of the rotation during the course of the season. Peter worked 16.1 innings in the pen with an ERA of 1.86.

Siua Hooheno – Used mainly in a setup role last season, Siua pitched 9.2 innings allowing 3 earned runs which results in an ERA of 2.79 to go along with his 0.95 WHIP this spring.

Dana Pualani – The sole lefty in the pen will get his fair share of work when a bevy of righties come up in the batting order. Dana had a 4.66 ERA this spring striking out 8 in 9.2 innings of work.

Nobuhito Kan – Nobuhito worked 8.2 innings this spring and ended up with an ERA of 3.12 to go along with a WHIP of 0.92. He took a ratings hit at the end of spring training from 50 to 45 so the Valencia front office will have to keep an eye on that considering the he is 35 years old.

Tomas Franco – Thomas, a Rule 5 pickup from Bikini who is also 35 years-old, had an ERA of 3.86 in 11.2 innings of work while striking out 11 to go along with a WHIP of 1.20.

Other relievers seeing time but getting sent back to the AAA Mars squad include:
Gui-cheng Yu – No runs allowed in 8.1 innings with a WHIP of 1.08
Jose Hernandez – Working 10.2 innings with a 2.53 ERA/1.22 WHIP
Bob Red – Pitched 10.1 innings with a 2.61 ERA and striking out 11.
