With the amount of free agent activity going on in Valencia this off-season, there has not been much development coverage lately. That will change with this article as we cover the latest with starting pitcher Shiro Takahashi.

Shiro just turned 21 so he is relatively early into his career as he was signed in the first round of the 2058 draft with the 15th overall pick. He has spent all three years so far with the AA Jamestown comets club. In 2058 Shiro struggled as he went 2-8 with a 6.54 ERA. The following season, the ERA dropped to 4.70 as he went 8-12 and then to 4.22 with a 9-12 record last year.

Shiro was invited to the spring training camp and placed into the 6 man starting rotation. After a rough first start where he allowed 1 run and 5 baserunners in 1.1 innings, he won his following two starts going 4 innings in each start while not allowing a hit.

From a ratings perspective, after getting hit by the dev monkeys in early 2059 where Shiro’s overall potential rating dropped from 50 to 45 (stuff potential dropped from 7 to 5, movement from 8 to 5 and control from 7 to 6), his actuals have steadily increased to where is current overall is up to 35 and his stuff/movement/control is currently sitting a 4/5/5.

Look for Shiro to be in the AAA rotation at the start of 2061, but he will likely need a bump if he is going to get into the rotation with the big league club in Valencia.

That AA assignment out of the draft was aggressive. The improved ERAs hopefully indicate development we can’t see.

No sure if my predecessor saw something in the ratings to where he thought Shiro could handle it or if he was in need of a starter in two seasons and hoped Shiro could handle it.

Hopefully he can snap out of it somewhat though.
