After finishing his work in Russelville, the reaper hopped on a plane and visited each of the minor league affiliates for the Valencia ball club. When all was said and done, 9 out of the 15 minor league coaching spots have been filled with new bodies.
Along with the 3 replacements in Russelville the previous week, there were two new coaches in Saturn, one new coach in Redwood City, two newbies in Jamestown and another one in the AAA Mars club. An, when we say newbies, each of these 9 new coaches have 0 experience to go along with the Russelville experiment mantra.
The front office spokesperson stated at a news conference, “We were looking for the best coaching talent out there that was not already with a team. Experience was not a differentiating factor.”
With experience not being a differentiating factor – time will tell if going off the farm in their train of thought will prove out fruitful or disastrous.
The new faces include:
Manager Luis Beltran (S A) – 57 years old with Dev/Mech/Teaching ratings of Outstanding/Excellent/Good
Hitting Coach Alfredo Hernandez (S A) - 55 years old with ratings of Average/Excellent/OK
Pitching Coach Phil Bliss (A) – 54 years old with ratings of OK/Good/Good
Manager Will Gardner (AA) – 45 years old with rating of Average/Excellent/Average
Hitting Coach Brendan Chapple (AA) – 36 years old with ratings of Good/Outstanding/Good
Hitting Coach Xavier Martinez (AAA) – 47 years old with ratings of Outstanding/Good/Outstanding
For the sake of the Valencia faithful in years to come, let's hope that the ratings are somewhat accurate. If not, the reaper could be paying a visit to Dunn Stadium some time soon.
