The Stars completed their second free agent signing of the off-season by acquiring starting pitcher Peter Dean. The contract is a one-year deal worth $1.4M.
Last season Dean went 3-6 with a 4.36 ERA in 13 starts for Omaha. His WAR for the season resulting from his 66 innings of work was 1.7. Dean is typically a groundball pitcher so the Valencia front office is hoping that the infield will be able to scoop up a lot of balls in plays and turn them into outs.
Dean has won 101 games over is 10 years in the BBA. He also got his start in Jacksonville when Greathouse was running the Hurricanes so there is a bit of history there as well.
One can surmise that the Stars are positioning themselves for the scenario that they will not find an ace to replace Adam Hines who just signed a 6-year/$20M per year deal with the Chicago Black Sox.
