Galaxy Gas 2060.04 – Xavier Vargas Wins Arbitration Case

In his first arbitration stint, starting pitcher Xavier Vargas was awarded $1.35M for the 2060 season. The Stars had put in an offer of $1.2M for the starter that held down the #3 spot in the rotation.

Xavier had a solid season during the 2059 campaign, posting a 14-13 record over his 33 starts. While he would get into more than his fair share of jams with a WHIP of 1.40, Xavier did log 191 innings over the season. He struck out 129 while walking 69 which resulted in an overall WAR of 2.6.

With the return of Adam Hines being increasingly unlikely, Vargas may be counted on to do a little more in 2060 which is a tall order for someone that is a middle of the rotation talent.

In Xavier’s first two seasons in Valencia, he was used strictly in the bullpen. With is 5-pitch arsenal, although none of them are overpowering, a stamina way above average and control slightly above average, the Stars’ powers that be decided to give him a shot in the starting lineup and he responded.

For Xavier, the 2060 season will determine if last year’s performance was a fluke or if it can be repeated.
