In an effort to keep the defense behind the plate at a very high level, the Valencia GM and current starting catcher Luis Gonzales came to terms on a 4-year/$13.6M deal to stay with the team. This salary averages out to the $3.4M that Luis made this current season.
Details of the contract has the salary increasing from $3M in 2060, to $3.2M in 2061, 3.6M in 2062 and then ending with a team option in 2063 for $3.8M.
The 27 year old had a production 2059 season throwing out 29.1 % of would be base stealers while allowing only 4 passed balls in 116 starts. At the plate where he has a career high of 403 at bats, he added 7 home runs and 31 RBI which totaled to a 2059 WAR of 2.8.
When asked about the contract at a press release Luis stated, “I am happy with the offer that I received from the front office. I think it is fair on both sides. I look forward to see what happens in Valencia over the next four seasons.”
