As we are roughly 40% into the season at 63 games, our beloved Valencia Stars are sitting at 33-30. If the season ended today, that would be good enough to invoke whatever series of tiebreakers/play-offs as there is a three-way tie with Bikini and Des Moines for the final two wild card slots.

One trend for Valencia is the current longevity of the starting rotation – knock on wood. Currently 4 out of the 5 Stars pitchers are averaging over 6 innings per start. This goes a long way in keeping the bullpen fresh when needed as the Stars GM is still hanging onto a 12-man pitching staff.

Lets take a deeper look into the numbers:

Adam Hines (7-4) – Adam has gone 78.2 innings in 13 starts which is slightly over 6 innings per start. He is also sporting a 3.32 ERA and a WHIP of 1.06 while striking out 68 and walking 18 so far this season.

Juan Garcia (5-6) – Juan is currently in the #2 slot and has pitched 80.2 innings in 13 starts for a 6.2 innings per start average. Juan has a ERA of 4.13 and WHIP of 1.23 while striking out 52 and walking 23.

Reynold Voermans (4-4) – Reynold has pitched 81.1 innings in 13 starts with a 6.2 average as well. His ERA of 3.43 and WHIP of 1.20 includes one complete game performance. Reynold has struck out 50 and walked 22.

Xavier Vargas (5-4) – Xavier has been holding down the #4 slot in the rotation pitching 80.1 innings in 13 starts. His ERA is sitting at 3.81 while his WHIP is at 1.32. Xavier has racked up 57 K’s and has issued 30 free passes.

Ruben Vazquez (3-7) – The once prominent hurler will likely never return anywhere near to his days of old, but he is currently in the #5 spot. He has pitched 69 innings in 12 starts being the only starter to average under 6 innings per start but he stll has an average of 5.75. Ruben also has the highest ERA of the Valencia starters at 5.48 and WHIP at 1.46.

As we start getting into the post All-Star game portion of the season and the dog-days of summer, we will see if this trend continues or crumbles.
