Galaxy Gas 2059.24 – Stars Split Series with YS9

In the series opener where Valencia arrived to play against the host Yellow Springs Nine, the Stars came up on the short end of the stick losing by a score of 3-2.

Valencia opened the scoring in the 5th inning on a RBI double by Kenny Blackwell. Valencia scored another run in the 7th inning on a RBI single by Blackwell.

After the 7th inning stretch things started to unravel for the Stars. After the inning started with a solo homer by Raul Morales, the game was later tied by Edgardo Encarncion.

Going into the bottom of the 9th, the score was still tied at 2-2. With one out and the bases loaded, Burhan Tahir stroked a single to drive in the game winning run.

Kenny Blackwell had a great day at the plate going 4-4 with a double driving in both of the Valencia runs.

Greg Jackson (2-2) absorbed the loss. Tyson Morris (3-2) claimed the win in relief.

In game 2 of the series, Valencia scored in each of the first 3 innings to go up 5-0 on its way to a 9-2 victory. The big blows for the Stars were a 3-run homer in the 3rd inning by Vincente Rivera and a 2-run shot in the 6th inning by Jose Vargas.

Adam Hines (7-4) garnered the win by allowing 1 earned run and 4 hits in 7 innings. Jonathan Bryant sealed the deal by pitching 2 scoreless innings of relief. Phil Cole (7-2) took the loss giving up 5 runs in 2.2 innings of work.

Game 3 of this see-saw series resulted in the Nine coming back out on top by a score of 7-2. The game changing swing came off the bat of Felix Abernathy when he belted a 3-run home run in the home half of the 6th inning.

Juan Garcia (5-6) took the loss allowing 3 runs in 5 innings of work. Cory McGuire (3-2) snagged the win allowing 1 run on 2 hits while pitching 6.1 innings.

In the series finale, Valencia rebounded to win the game 4-2. Miller Shed knocked in a run with a solo bomb in the 4th inning and Habib Bin Ameen hit a 2-RBI double in the 9th inning.

Johnathan Bryant (2-0) got the win in relief while Martin Roman got his 19th save of the season. Boulos Niam (2-3) was the recipient of the loss.

Valencia’s record for the season now stands at 32-30 while the Yellow Springs tally sits at 27-35.
