The Valencia Stars achieved its seventh straight win by beating the Madison Wolves by a score of 7 to 1. The win improves the Stars record to 24-24 while the Wolves drop to 19-29.
For the second consecutive night, the Stars scored in the first inning. The scoring was courtesy of a two RBI single from Vincente Rivera. Valencia also scored again in the bottom of the fifth when Mark Kimball hit a solo shot over the left field wall.
Valencia plated two more runners in the sixth. The scoring was initiated by Kenny Blackwell smacking a RBI double. Later in the inning, Blackwell would score on a sacrifice fly from Mark Kimball.
Valencia went up 7 to 0 in the 8th inning as they scored 2 more times. After a couple of singles by Jose Vargas and Kenny Blackwell, Miller Shed drove in a run when he hit into a fielder’s choice. Another run was scored when Mark Kimball also hit into a fielder’s choice.
Madison scored their lone run in the top of the 9th inning, when Dave McClain hit a solo dinger to left field on a 3-2 count with two outs to avoid the shutout.
Kenny Blackwell went 4-4 at the plate while Jose Vargas and Rafael Elias each chipped in 3 hits.
Reynold Voermans (3-3) gained the complete game victory allowing one run on four hits. Tyler Murray (4-2) absorbed the loss.
