VALENCIA – Another last place finish in the PL Western for the Rocketmen, though the 53-87 club did improve on last season's win total of 39, their best result since 2050. Nevertheless, this was Redwood City's eighth consecutive losing season. Pitching on this team was awful (collective -4.7 WAR). Team hitting was considerably better (collective wRC+ of 106, and 17.2 WAR).

Position Player of the Year: Second Baseman, Monty Rowe
Acquired: 2051 Draft, 12th Pick in Round 7 (217th overall)
Born: Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
.289/.382/.404, .786 OPS, 115 wRC+, 3.0 WAR
Signature Moment: Went 3 for 5, with 2 walks, and 4 runs scored on April 14, against the Twin Falls White Pines

Seventh round pick Marty Rowe's 2056 season came out of nowhere, following three consecutive negative WAR seasons at the Class A level. In his age 22 season, Rowe had some attractive numbers both at the plate and in the field, where he had a 6.1 Zone Rating. Club manager Alan Willis credits Monty's positive attitude and work ethic for the improvement. Rowe is still considered a fringe prospect. The BBA scouting service gives him a future value of 40. Expect to see him playing in Class AA Jamestown next season.

Pitcher of the Year: Art Lacey
Acquired: 2052 Draft, 18th Pick in Round 15 (488th overall)
Born: St. Catherines, Ontario
3.28 ERA, 81 K, 30 BB, 53 HA, 8 HRA, 74.0 IP, 95 FIP-, 1.2 WAR
Signature Moment: Struck out 11, walked none, allowed 2 hits, and earned a game score of 75 in six innings pitched in a start against the Huntsville Phantoms on May 13

As seems to be the norm, the Redwood City pitcher of the years spent less than half the season playing for the Rockets before he was promoted to Class AA Jamestown. Art Lacey earned promotion by the end of June, but was still the club's WAR leader in 2056. Lacey was a 20/20 prospect with a 93 mph fastball when the Stars drafted him. He is a minor league depth pitcher, whose hard hit rate will prevent him from ever seeing big league action. He has learned how to fan minor league hitters, however, and has a robust strike out rate. His fastball now tops out at 97 mph, and his changeup is improving as well. The BBA scouting service gives him a 40 future value.
