LONG BEACH – Stars third baseman Daniel Pepper went 1-for-4 and reached the 2500-hit milestone tonight, but Valencia still lost the game 7-3 to the Long Beach Surfers. In his 2191-game career Pepper has hit .295 with 2500 hits, 413 home runs, and 1344 RBI. He has scored 1430 runs, and is currently owner of a 80.9 career WAR.

Pepper, a native of Guildford, England, has played for three teams in his 14+ year career and seems destined for the BBA Hall of Fame. He has collected 1622 hits during his 9-year tenure with the Rockville Pikemen, 510 hits while with the Vancouver Mounties for three seasons, and 368 hits and counting in his 2+ years with Valencia. He is 112th on the all-time hits list.

Slightly dampening the celebratory mood surrounding the achievement are persistent rumors that the team is actively trying to trade Pepper before the deadline. Though there doesn't appear to be much interest from other teams in such a deal, there is some uncertainty in the clubhouse about the future of Pepper, and other veteran players.
