Recap of Stars Postseason, Game 2

In the second game of the series, the Stars would fall behind early and never really look like they were going to threaten in this match up. Nine right fielder Nazeeh Ragheb, who had been nothing special during the year (68 wRC+), was made to look like an all-star by Valencia pitching, going three for four on the day and crossing the plate three times, which was all the scoring the Nine would need, as they would win this one by a score of 6 -2.

Taking the mound for the home team was left-hander David Lee (14-8, 4.18 ERA, 191.2 IP). Like a lot of pitchers, Lee found himself not striking guys out in 2051 like he had in years past. League-wide, strikeouts were down around 18.5% this season compared to 2050 (down nearly 19% in the association as a whole). The Stars would roll out right-hander Jacob Smiley, a slightly better than league average starter (9-9, 4.59 ERA, 143 IP).

After a three up, three down first inning, Smiley would get into some trouble. Future Hall of Famer Dong-po Thum would drive in a run on a double in the second. The Nine would tack on two more on three hits in the third.

The Stars would get on the board in the fourth thanks to a Gilberto Falchonelli RBI single, cutting the deficit to two, but they would get no closer. This is thanks in part to Stars manager Mel Jenkins's insistence on giving Burhan Tahir a free pass in order to pitch to Silk candidate Tomás Borges. He did this twice, which twice led to RBI hits by Borges, a piece of 'managing' bordering on criminal negligence.

It took three Yellow Springs pitchers to close things out in the ninth, and Nine reliever Slawomir Trzcinski would nip Valencia's attempted two out rally in the bud, inducing a ground out from Stars designated hitter Lee Stone with men on first and second.

If you're looking for a bright spot here it would likely be the play of late August call-up Sergei Bobrovsky, who went three for four with a double on the evening. We will likely see quite a bit more of him in 2052.
