VALENCIA – The Stars announced the departure of first base coach Héctor Canó today. Canó had been with the team since the 2047 season and had served as the first base coach during that time. While he was with Valencia, the team had a record of 212-228. He has an outstanding reputation as an instructor of catchers, a position he never played as a professional.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Canó spent his pro career with the EBA's Paris Patriots. He played for one season, 2025. He saw time primarily as a center fielder.

Canó's replacement in the first base box will be Víctor Santos, who formerly held the same position with the El Paso Chilis in 2047. He has spent the past year and a half as a freelance roving instructor. While he has scant big league experience, sources in coaching circles describe Santos as an outstanding infield instructor and excellent in-game manager of the running game.

Stars general manager Alfredo Vásquez had nothing but praise for Canó in a written statement issued earlier today, noting that this change in personnel “speaks more to deficiencies on the club than to deficiencies in Héctor's abilities as a coach.” Vásquez went on to say that the club was doing what it could to address poor performances on the base paths as well as lapses in defensive fundamentals in the infield.
