Valencia Stars Report:24-30 (.444) # 3 RANDALL TRADED

Post by leejay56 » Wed Jan 11, 2012 11:49 pm

The Stars continue to struggle this season now 6 games below .500.. The offense is 12 in almost all catagories so far and they keep losing to many close games....The starting pitching has done well, 4th in most catagories but the pen still continues to struggle...
The Stars decieded to shake things up last week and traded vet 34-year-old second baseman Mack Randall for 4 minor leaguers...Randall who did hit 29 homers last season and drove in 89 runs but the Stars only won 77 games and they started off the same this season...Randall has a career .276 batting average, 307 homers and 1027 RBI'S..........
The Stars have 26 year old 2B/SS Ed Ross who was brought up towards the end of last season...Ross has potiental and with some consistant playing time should do good...He doesnt have the power as Randall but he could hit 10 homers and add 25 doubles...
The Stars called up AAA 2B 24 year old Roosevelt Daniel.Daniel was hitting .300 down in AAA so far this season..Hopefully between the the two it will fill the shoes of Randall....

In the Randall deal the Stars recieved [AAA] relief pitcher Morris Brown..Brown, 23, a lefty throws 96 mph fastball and has a good slider...Brown needs to get his control down, but if he does that he could be very good...
The Stars picked up 22-year-old minor league closer Finley Nickerson..Nickerson the same type of pitcher as Brown only from the right side...If he can get his contol down he could do well...Both players should get a good look by next season for the Stars.....
Another RP the Stars picked up was 25-year-old minor league reliever Héctor Molina..Molina does have some ML experiance...In 73 innings he has a 5.01 era..The Stars could use him some time this season....The last player in the deal was 24-year-old minor league first baseman Tomás Mota...Mota was having a great year this season .331 6 homers in 137 at bats...Mota could see some action at the end of the year and a possible bench slot next sesason....

I like that you're beginning to look a little bit towards the future. Valencia has always had a lot of talent but never seems to perform to its abilities.

Kinda neat to see Lee go with a youth movement. I've always saw Lee teams as veteran teams.
