Flat-Track Bullies?

We're through just over a third of the season, and the 2048 Stars are currently 27-30 (on pace for 76-77 wins on the year). Right now they're three games below five-hundred and five games out of the wildcard. Their current playoff odds sit at 9.3%, so there's at least a glimmer of hope in Valencia.

Against the big six teams of the Frick, that is, the top five in the Heartland (Yellow Springs, Chicago, Louisville, Madison, and Omaha) plus Sacramento, the Stars have been a woeful 3-16 (.158). The Stars have been swept in four series and have just one series win, at Louisville (for shame, Sluggers). Valencia has a chance to gain some ground, or at least try and avoid a fifth sweep, later this month when they travel to Chicago to face the Black Sox for the first time this season.

When facing the nine teams in the rest of the league, the Stars are a solid 24-14 (.632). There's a dividing line in the Frick, and the Stars appear to be sitting right on it, looking significantly better than most, but looking nowhere near competitive against the better clubs in the league. In order to cross this line, the Stars will need to figure out a way to bridge this gulf between them and what already appears to be the playoff-bound six.
