Valencia Stars Report: 3rd place 77-85 (.475) # 8

The Stars ended up with 77 wins the lowest total of wins ever...So to see what changes need to be made...One area the Stars need to look into is there pen...The bullpen had 36 losses between them and had a team era of 4.32....
Last year free agent pickup John Oloughlin really dissapointed the Stars this year...Oloughlin went 3-3 but had a high 5.40 era..Oloughlin has 2 more years left on his contract...Hopefully he can turn it around next season or he probably wont be around much longer..

CLO Marty Powers over his last 16 games had an era of 1.76 and picked up 7 saves...Powers had told everyone he would retire but now said he would sign a 3 year deal if it was offered to him by the Stars...His contract ends this season and the Stars dont look to resign him...Powers ended the year with a 5-10 record 36 saves and a 4.17 era...Powers has a career 296 saves, so close to 300..The big question if the Stars dont sign him will he retire or try to hook up with another team and get 300 saves...

Future HOF secondbaseman Mack Randall picked up his 300th career homerun a few weeks ago...Randall added more power to there lineup as he hit .262 27 doubles and ended up with 29 homers and 89 rbi's....Another soild season for the 33 yearold infielder...

Vet starting pitcher Phil Leftwich ended the year with 19 wins...Leftwich now 33 had a very soild season with te Stars and lead all the starters with 19 wins...Leftwich was given a shot at win number 20 and pitched a great game vs Calif , 10 innings 6 k's but left the game went 12 innings and he didnt get the win....The 19 wins for him was a career best...
