Valencia Stars: Off Season

Post by leejay56 » Thu Mar 14, 2019 10:48 am

The Stars had a busy off-season in 2038. The main goal was to get help in pitching this season and first base. The Stars added players to both areas. The Stars had one of the worst SP and Bull Pens in the BBA last seasons. Hopefully these few changes will help the Stars in 2038.

Added Pitching
The Stars picked up to closer Luis Ortega. The 27 year old Ortega has 115 saves the last 3 years and has ranked in the top 10 saves the last 3 years. Ortega a career 3.24 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP. In 2037 Ortega went 5-4 31 saves 2.13 ERA. should be a great addition to the team..

RP Rafael Morales was added next to give the Stars more veteran players to go with all the young guys. Morales who is 30, has a career 4.10 ERA signed a one year contact with the Stars for 3.6 million. Morales gives the Stars more depth and should be very useful piece.

SP/RP Lee McHone was added to give more depth as a starter and bullpen guy. McHone a former number one pick in 2025 has great stuff and will rack up the K's but his biggest weakness is his control. McHone has a career 55-44 record, In 1020 innings he has 1046 K's, has pitched in 418 games and 112 as a starter. McHone brings some leadership to the dugout which is needed for the Stars organization.

1B Mike Ellis was a big pick up for the Stars. Ellis is only 24 and should fit in with all the young kids on the team. The Stars biggest offensive weakness was a solid first base man
who can get on base and allow all the power guys to get him the score. With Ellis he brings all that and more. Ellis is a career .319 hitter, with a .351 OBP. Ellis is very fast as he has 141 stolen bases in the last 4 seasons. Last season Ellis hit .333 40 doubles, 71 RBIS and had a 3.6 WAR. Ellis another former number one pick will mostly bat leadoff and could score 100 runs this season with such a powerful line up behind him.

The Stars also picked up Ellis Curran who will give the Stars more depth at DH and backup First base. Curran 22, was a rule 5 pick up and the Stars feel he could be ready for the big leagues this season. Curran in 251 games at AAA ball has a career .279 batting average, .364 OBP which shows he can be patience at the plate and shown some pop with 49 homers over two seasons. Curran will platoon as the DH to start the season.
