Valencia Stars: Spring New Faces # 2

Post by leejay56 » Mon Jun 11, 2018 9:48 am

The Stars will see a few new faces from there minors this season. After many years of all the Stars top picks tanking last year we saw the first potential star from the minors. Outfielder/1B Frank Mahaffey played in his first season with the STARS. Mahaffey ended up with a .267 32 homers and had 85 Rbi's. What a great rookie season for the 22 year old.
This season the Stars will bring up a few new prospects that should be ready. 21 Year old LF Wilton Rivera looks to be ready to play at the next level.Last season in AAA ball in 74 games Rivera hit .314 15 45, not bad for only 74 games.

SP/RP Gerald Keynes will get his shot this season in the rotation for the Stars. Keynes 21 and was drafted in 2030 in the second round throws
99-101 and has 3 good pitches, fastball, slider and changeup. Last year in AAA he pitched 207 innings 147 K's and had 7 complete games. Keynes most likely will be the number 4 or 5 starter this season.

RP Javier Castro a young hard thrower 99-101 saw some action last season at the end of the year. Javier picked up 3 saves in 10 games and had 10 K's in his 10 innings. Castro could be a future closer and really came out of nowhere last season. Castro was a 6 round pick in 2030, was injured Elbow ligament reconstruction surgery), out for 11 months. Worked hard and now is will be on the Stars roster. Castro does have a third pitch hes working on so maybe a he will get a spot start this season.

I don't want to jinx anything, but things might be starting to look up for the Stars.

Really like the young guys you have coming. Hopefully they can help Flores out.
