Valencia Star Gazer: 1998, Vol. #3

The Stars are making a push to win the Pacific, sitting at just 2 games back with a 50-38 record. Currently the Stars have a 4 game lead in the Wild Card, however, with 74 games to go anything can happen. The Stars, are starting to get impatient with Josh Kellogg still sitting on the DL, this pitching staff has held up thus far, but some changes need to be made. The Stars GM though feels everyone needs to calm down in Stars Nation, "We are patiently waiting for the Return of Mr. Kellogg, and we are confident he will return as strong as he was during spring training. In the meantime, we have asked some guys to step into roles they aren't use to and I am happy with the way they have responded thus far." This staff is giving up just 3.9 runs per game, which is best in the Johnson League and scoring more than that at a 4.4 run per game clip. This owner and this fanbase expect to see Championships, so it is easy to understand why this team may come under heavy scrutiny in the future.

Pitching Headlines
Devon Hyngary in his last 4 starts is 3-0 with a .95 ERA, for the season the 6-3 with a 3.33 ERA. Closer James Braunsteinhas appeared in 33 games and only has 9 saves and a 2.84 ERA to show for it. All 9 saves have come in the last 18 games where his also has a 1.00 ERA in that stretch. As previously stated starter Josh Kellogg is still out with shoulder inflammation, he return is unknown but the Stars are hopeful he can return in 2 weeks. Kellogg has been injured since the first game of the season.

Offensive Headlines
Dave Reillyhad a tremendous day on 7/6/1998, hitting 3 HRs in a single game, 2 solo blasts and a 2 run homer, where he finished the day 3-4 with 4 RBIs. Reilly is currently hitting .297 with 11 homers and 25 RBIs. The last 6 games though he is hitting .397 with 5 homeruns. Hopefully, these are encouragings signs for the 25 year-old rookie.
