Valencia added yet another arm to the pitching staff when they came to terms with reliever Luis Perez. The deal was of the two-year variety valued at $8.5M per year.

Luis pitched in the Hawaii Tropic bullpen last season where he garnered 24 saves striking out 81 batters in the 84 innings that he pitched.

From a ratings perspective, Luis has an overall rating of 65 with a Stuff rating of 10 to go along with a movement rating of 6 and a control rating of 6.

The Valencia bullpen now looks like it will be comprised of the following:

Luis Perez – Closer – With the liveliest arm in the Valencia bullpen, he will be taking over closer duties from Lindsay Barber.
Siua Hooheno – Setup – If Siua can come close to repeating his 2060 performance of 1.76/0.98 ERA/WHIP over 41 innings, he will be a pefect fit for the setup role.
Lindsay Barber – Setup – Last year’s closer with a 3.89 ERA and 35 saves were not bad. However his WHIP of 1.54 was a factor in Lindsay having 9 blown saves.
Jeff Doane – Middle Relief – Jeff has not met expectations since coming to Valencia last year with a 4.89 ERA. With Jeff being in the final year of his contract at $1.8M, he does not figure to be in the Stars’ long term plans.
Dana Pualani – Middle Relief – Also in his final year of his contract at $1.1M, Dana pitched 57 innings with a 3.75 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP.
Nobuhito Kan – Middle Relief – In his final year of his contract at $1.36M, Nob’s ERA of 4.04 and WHIP of 1.38 makes him a candidate to be absent from the opening day roster barring a strong spring training.
Hao-hing Huang – Middle Relief – Hao had a 4.55 ERA last year so he may be on the outside looking in come April as well.
Quintin Birss – Long Relief – Qunitin had a 3.19 ERA/1.23 WHIP in 13 games in the last half of 2060. At this point he may have the nod over Nob and Hao.
Tomas Franco – Long Relief – A rule 5 pickup from Bikini trying to find an opening day spot to prevent being returned to the land of the Krillians.

Doing the math, one can see that there are 15 names (counting the 5 starters) and likely only 13 pitching slots available for the opening day roster so a few of these names will be dropped come April 1st.

Perez was asking 10 mil a year from me. At his age and being 'Italian' (fragile), I couldn't justify it. That bastard gave you a better deal.
