Valencia Stars: off-season Pitching # 2

Post by leejay56 » Wed Mar 25, 2020 8:08 pm

The Stars did lose a few pitchers this year, so going into the season the main goal was to get more depth there...The biggest lose wasn't to free agency, was to a huge injury to the Stars ace Pepe Hernández. Hernández just turned 25 will be out with a Torn rotator cuff and will miss all of 2042...That's a big hit to the Stars...Last season Hernández went 10-8 with a 3.61 ERA..Hernández moved his way to the ace of the staff last season and never looked back...The Stars fans wont see him until 2043...

So the Stars let go Lee McHone go.. McHone won 40 games for the Stars the last 4 years but last year McHone had his worse year going 6-5 4.92 and didn't want to pay 12 M for more years…
To replace McHone the Stars picked up vet SP Donald Harris . Harris 32, has won 57 games over his career. Last season for Harris was his worst 8-12 6.67 ERA so hopefully the change will do him some good...Harris signed for 3.5 M in his first year with a team option...
The Stars also piched up MR Roberto Lizardo who signed for 2 years with team option years..The Stars looking for some depth and Lizardo gives them that. The 27 year old has a 167 career saves with a 4.11 ERA...Lizardo will end up in the MR/Long relief role for the Stars.

The Stars brought back MR/SP Niall Hanlon.
Hanlon is another MR/SP that will get innings both places..He will start 12-15 games and come in from the pen...

Besides that the Stars will have Jorge García as the number 1 starter, García went 11-9 last season, José Martínez as the number 2, went 7-12 and pitched in the pen and started...The number 3 starter is Jafar Haamid, who the Stars traded for at the trade deadline...Haamid only 22, will get his first shot at starting at the start of the season...Hopefully Haamidy can pick up 12 wins this season...Number 4 will be Harris and 5 will be a mixed of a few players..

The pen was solid last year and looks ok again this season... MR/CLO Jorge Martínez and Brian Butler will be the anchors of the pen..Butler will get a shot to close and Martínez will be one of the setup guys...The rest is a solid bunch that hopefully have a good year in 2042...
