Trops ride the waves to a sweep-2064.11

Hawaii 4 Long Beach 2 (11 innings)- Saturday, April 19, 2064

The Hawaii Tropics get a two-run single by Carlos Schumann to put the Trops up in extras. Hawaii hurler Gheorghe Sollomovici set down the Surfers 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 11th to pick up the win. Sollomovici was also tagged with a blown save allowing a hit that scored the game tying run in the 9th. But Hawaii Manager Amato Cruz stuck with is star reliever and it paid off with three Ks in 2.2 innings of work.

Schumann was 2 for 6 with two ribbies on the day. Roberto Lopez was 2 for 5 with a double (4), an RBI and scored once. Jorge Dodd was 1 for 4 with a walk and an RBI.

Hawaii 3 Long Beach 2- Sunday, April 20, 2064

WP- Semih Gurani (1-1)

LP- Bill Beals (0-2)

Attendance- 43,494 at Vito Constantino Memorial Stadium

All the action between the Trops and Surfers happened in the 1st and 2nd inning then both pitching staffs took over with Hawaii’s coming out on top by a run. Hawaii scored three runs in the top of 1st on consecutive RBI singles by Dodd, Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinez and Bob Webb.

The Surfers responded with single runs in the bottom of the 1st and 2nd innings off Tropics starter John Avery. Avery settled down and finished four innings allowing just those two runs on four hits and two walks. He struck out one in a no decision. Semih Gurani tossed 1.1 clean innings with a K to pick up the win. Marty Pearce followed that with 1.2 scoreless innings with three Ks while giving up a hit. Sollomovici made his 2nd appearance in the series with a scoreless inning and a K. Cale Cote earned the save in his inning of work with a walk and two Ks.

Hawaii 10 Long Beach 2- Monday, April 21, 2064

WP- Hector Estrada (2-0)

LP- John Parrish (2-1)

Attendance- 34,028 at Vito Constantino Memorial Stadium

The Hawaii offense had 19 hits and scored 10 runs while rookie starter Hector Estrada earned his 2nd win with 6.2 solid innings. He allowed two runs on four hits while walking three and fanning four batters. The bullpen mopped up with 2.1 scoreless to finish the game.

Another rookie, Harry Surface, had four hits for Hawaii going 4 for 6 and scored two runs. Bob Webb was 3 for 6 with three ribbies. Dodd was 1 for 6, scored two runs and drive in two. Vincente Mendez was 2 for 3 with two walks, swiped a bag (6), scored a run and drove in one.

The Trops sweep the three-game series.

Extra base hits were still hard to come by in this series, but the team did hit the ball well. We may just be regressing back to the mean after last season’s crazy numbers. I’m hoping to get some better ‘dice rolls’ the next few sims.
