The Valencia Stars survive a big inning from the Tropics and comeback to win the series. Hawaii put up four runs in the 2nd inning to go up 4-1 on the Stars but starter Nalany Ahotaein couldn’t handle the stress. He gave up four more runs before being chased in the top of the 6th inning and was relieved by veteran hurler Semih Gurani. Gurani gave up a solo homer in his 1.1 innings before handing the game over to Gheorghe Sollomovici. Sollomovici pitched two clean innings with two Ks giving his offense a chance to make a run that never materialized.
Hawaii LF Roberto Lopez was 1 for 5 with a three-run double (1) in the big 2nd inning. Sanchez remains on a hot streak going 1 for 3 with a walk, swiped another bag and scored a run. 2B Miguel ‘Thrillseeker’ Martinez was also 1 for 3 with an RBI and scored a run.
The Valencia Stars win the series 2-1.
The Tropics bats are still cold to begin the season with just three extra base hit in this series while racking up 14 strike outs against six walks. The Trops averaged 3.7 xbh per game last season good for 599, good for 6th all-time in the team’s history. In a small sample size, Hawaii is averaging 0.6 this season reflecting the not ready for prime time offense.
