Remember Tomorrow- 2063.58

Harris remembered waking up, strapped to a gurney with an IV in his arm. He could hear the turbine whine of multiple jets engines. He looked around and recognized the interior of the Hawaii Tropics team plane. He tested his straps for tension then peered over the edge of the gurney. No wheels and locked into the cargo flooring of the aircraft. An attendant noticed Harris had awoken and walked over to the gurney.

“Good morning, sunshine!”, the attendant gushed with mocking humor.

Then, “You ready for a seat?”, the attendant asked.

Harris croaked, “Yep.”

The attendant first removed the IV then removed the straps and bid Harris to stand with a hand motion. Harris hopped off the gurney and was guided to a seat near the front of the aircraft. He was given a banana and some water by the attendant then was left alone with is thoughts.

Fucking Walker! What the hell does this idiot want now? He took away my sources of income and left me destitute. Now he expects help?

The plane landed in Honolulu Harbor and taxied to the Hawaii Tropics private docks. The aircraft gangway pulled up to plane and positioned itself to offload passengers. A lone individual stepped out onto the top and squinted into the Honolulu’s midday sun. At the bottom stood a man he recognized. He looked younger but it was still him. He’s 96 but he looks 50. Money can buy you anything thought Harris as he strode down the steps quickly.

“Steve, good to see you!”, Walker said.

Harris just stared daggers at him.

“Let’s talk in the limo.”, Walker said as he guided Harris to the car. Once in the limo Walker began.

“Before you strangle me, let me explain. Intel to us appeared that you were working with Anton Vogts to usurp me, but we’ve discovered our mistake.”

“Dammit, Walker! Why didn’t you do something about it earlier! It’s been years!”, a red-faced Harris sputtered.

‘Where’s the fun in that.”, Walker said matter of factly. Then, “Let me make it to you. 2.5 million more than you were getting paid, a villa, a jet and a car.”

Harris paused, thought about it and said, “What’s the scheme?”

“Just continue where you left off. I’ll make you special assistant to the GM to give to league access. We’ve got to stay on top. What do ya say?”, Walker asked.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That was 4 months ago already. Harris had accepted the offer after some haggling had taken the salary to 4 million more, a large home with plenty of land stocked with Axis Deer and a Lambo. He thought, I don’t need a jet, I’m not afraid of the ‘Door”.

He had re-connected with the crews across the BBA and given them their assignments. The toughest assignments were the Pacific Division teams. The request of the crews were simple. Do damage.

In Portland, the crew had been at work before Harris had given their assignment. They were sabotaging Allen ‘Buddy’ Uecker’s rehab from a Bone Marrow Edema but crashing his vitamin D intake.

The crew in Sacramento used the tried-and-true honey pot on Assistant GM Jesus ‘Sticky’ Maldonado. An attractive woman cultivated a romantic relationship with Maldonado and enticed him to send false player reports to Mad Popes Manager Fernando Pacheco. Pacheco made some bad decisions down the stretch as Sacramento faded late in the season.

The Bikini Krill lost CF Amin Abdul-Halim to a fractured knee suffered in a game but was actually injured at a petting zoo by a sketchy donkey on an off day.

The husband-and-wife team in Vancouver would begin operations against a target but would be foiled by the target getting traded away.

The team in San Fernando had a rough time with security at the Bears facility. The organization his hyper-vigilant and it’s difficult to get any traction there.

Valencia was ignored because they have many ex-Tropics players making them not a big problem.

Long Beach still has water problems.

Harris smiled. He had earned his raise and then some as the Tropics finally won the Pacific. But the boss wants more. He always wants more. The teams and I will be getting to work on 2064 immediatley
