Attendance- 31,134 at Chico’s Bail Bonds Field

Jose Ordonez and Jorge Dodd homer and starter Martin Garcia throws five scoreless to propel the Tropics to a series opening win over the Bears.

Ordonez was 3 for 5 at the plate with a homer (7), scored two runs and drove in three. Dodd was 1 for 4 with a two-run blast (22) in the 1st inning to get Hawaii’s offense off to a good start.

‘Lumps’ Garcia pitched five scoreless allowing three hits, walked two and fanned five as he improved to 2-4. The bullpen is still struggling with three relievers surrendering two runs on three hits in four innings. Ricardo Sanchez stood out with 1.1 scoreless innings giving up a hit and issued a walk.

Attendance- 30,059 at Chico’s Bail Bonds Field

The Bears four run rally in the bottom of the 8th doom the Tropics to a loss at Chico’s Bail Bonds Field. Trops reliever Bob Westbrooks gave up three runs on two hits and a walk to take the loss and Utkan Gocek gave up a run in a blown save to gift San Fernando the win.

The bullpen ruined a good start by Ruben bin Majid al Din who pitched five innings allowing a run on two hits. He walked two and struck out four in a no decision.

Jeff Appleton was 2 for 4 with a solo homer (6). Lorenzo Holloway was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Hawaii 8 San Fernando 0- Sunday, July 29, 2063

LP- Hassan bin Zuhair (2-6)

Attendance- 28,791 at Chico’s Bail Bonds Field

The Tropics shutout the Bears to go up 2-1 in the four-game series. Hawaii starter Daniel Thornton pitched 5.1 innings allowing just two hits, walked one and fanned nine batters to improve to 3-5. The bullpen bounced back nicely with Jose Ordonez pitching 1.1 scoreless and Ricardo Sanchez tossing two clean innings with a K.

On offense, Eric Owens was 1 for 4 and smashed a three-run homer (10) in the 6th inning. Roberto Lopez was 3 for 4, scored a run and drove in a run. Vincente Mendez was 1 for 4 with a double (21), walked, swiped two bags (35), scored two runs and drove in a run. Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinez was 2 for 4 with a double (33), walked, stole a base (12), scored two runs and had an RBI.

Attendance- 29,460 at Chico’s Bail Bonds Field

The San Fernando Bears offense mauled Hawaii veteran pitcher Semih Gurani for six runs on nine hits in two innings to run away with the series finale and earn a series split. The bullpen didn’t fare much better allowing six more runs in the final six innings.

The Tropics offense managed three runs off the Bears and the leading hitter was Carlos Schumann. Schumann was 3 for 3 with a walk, double (25), stole a base (25), drove in a run and scored a run. Jeff Appleton was 2 for 3 with a walk, double (7) and scored two runs.

The Hawaii Tropics and the San Fernando Bears split the four-game series.
