The Tropics open the series with a win as they run away from the Surfers. Long Beach opened the scoring with a single run in the 3rd inning, but Hawaii struck back in the bottom of the inning with three runs and tacked on three more in the 4th.
Hawaii had homers from Armando Medina (3) and Carlos Sanchez (5). Medina was 2 for 4, scoring two runs and driving in two. Sanchez was 1 for 4 with two ribbies and scored two runs.
Slobodan Omeragic had a better start at home against the Surfers throwing 61 pitches in 4.2 innings of work. He allowed a run on three hits, walked two and struck out three in a no decision. Cale Cote earned the win in relief of Omeragic with an inning allowing a run on three walks to improve to 2-0.

Eric Owens was 2 for 4 and finally homered with a three-run blast in the 6th inning to put Hawaii up for good. Jose Ordonez also hit his 1st of the season with a solo shot off Long Beach starter Gavrilovich Mastinsky. Ordonez was 1 for 4 and scored twice.
Daniel Thornton was sharp for Hawaii allowing a run on four hits in five innings while fanning seven batters in a no decision. Marty Pearce earned his 1st win in relief of the season allowing a run on a hit and a walk while striking out one. Utkan Gocek pitched two scoreless innings for his 3rd save. He allowed a hit and struck out two.

The Long Beach Surfers avoid a series sweep at the hands of the Tropics by pouncing on Trops starter Semih Gurani early. The Surfers offense hit three homers off the long ball stingy Hawaii staff. Gurani allowed four runs on seven hits and a couple of walks in 3.2 innings. He struck out two and gave up two homers as he falls to 0-1.
Hawaii LF Eric Owens was 1 for 1 with a double (2) in the 2nd inning and pulled up lame. Jose Ordonez pinch ran for Owens going 2 for 2 with a walk and two RBI. SS Julian Rivera was 1 for 3 with a walk and scored a run.
Hawaii wins the series 2-1.
“Owens finally homered. We think he’s been hiding an injury from us, but he might be ready to breakout.”, said Hawaii Manager Amato Cruz.
